Apparently, they’re the dangly bits hanging from a false-fruit known as a “cashew apple” (yeah. um. I’m not going to be getting that image out of my head any time soon. look it up if you want.)

TIL, cashews do, actually, have a shell!
Technically, cashew’s are drupes… I had to look it up. They’re used as nuts culinarilly, so whatever.
