Well that story never sat right with me anyhow. I mean how dumb do you have to be to accept a gigantic and obviously hollow wooden horse as a gift, and not notice it’s full of stinking and probably not completely silent soldiers?

Whoever let that in unsuspecting and uninspected was just as dumb as Drumpf.

There’s like a billion sources, but I think in the story, the horse was supposedly left by the Greeks as an offering to the gods (Poseidon?) for safe passage home across the sea. And then the Trojans saw the Greeks had left, and stole the horse to fuck them over.

But the Greeks had anticipated that, and were lying about leaving anyway. They knew if they left it there, then the Trojans would steal the horse and bring it into the city, so they hid inside and then sprang out to kill the guards and open the gates for the rest of the army. So it wasn’t a gift for the Trojans. Also, I think somebody did say that it was a trap, but they were ignored or killed somehow

Poseidon sent a couple of sea serpents to strangle the guy (a priest TO POSEIDON no less, and his two sons) warning the Trojans.

So he was like: “guys, this is a trap”. And immediately two giant snake things appear and kill him on the spot. And the rest of the Trojans shrug off that horrific event and ignore the warning…

Realistically, I’m not saying that it actually happened. However, it would have been far more likely to be a horse-sized horse statue with one or two dudes inside it. Remember all they had to do was wait for a day slip out and then unlock the side door of the gate from the inside and hold it open, not conquer the city.
