Sounds a lot like the “icebreaker” was more like ritual, mandatory hypocrisy.
I wonder how fun the “let’s talk” HR sit down was after that.
Somewhat related, one time my boss nominated me aa an employee for the CEO to have lunch with. It was some initiative about him wanting to get to know the employees better, and to know their problems better.
I turned it down because I wasn’t sure I could avoid saying something along the lines of “you’re a parasite”, even in euphemism form.
Yeah they want to think that they can solve the problems inherent within their companies without paying people more. Like there’s some magical thing they can do that doesn’t involve paying people more and having them work less. They desperately want to believe that the people that work for them don’t hate them and don’t see the inequality in pay and production value as an injustice.
I’m part of the health and safety team at my job and every month we have a meeting about health/safety concerns. My input is always “we’re concerned about the state of the floor cracking, and raises are needed for mental health.” Naturally neither get addressed.
Yeah, another was “the organizational model of this place is inherently predatory, unfair, and undemocratic, so tear up the foundation and redo it”, which wouldn’t have gone anywhere.
It’s an inherent problem. It’s not going anywhere without revolution.
Consider the ice smashed into atoms.
Why break the ice when we could embrace the cold?
