I asked my friend to begrudgingly sign up to feddit.uk and the request never goes through. Is there some sort of server issue?

Logging in and signing up can take a few tries at the moment, for some reason.
If you refresh the page and retry, it should work, unless signups have been truly closed.

Does the sign up hang rather than the verification email?

If so they may have to choose a different username, the UI doesn’t return error messages on login/signup yet so the username may have already been taken

In my case they didn’t hang. It said it sent a verification email which never arrived. I then tried again with a different username and different email and the same thing happened. Is there any way you can check one of them if I give you detail?

@tom When I try to login it says email not verified. I never got an email to confirm. Are you able to resend it?

I’ve also tried to sign up and it said email was sent for verification but I didn’t get an email. There may be an issue here but will need to wait and see if Tom replies to help.

I’m not sure if this is the case on your instance but many instances are temporarily locking sign up because of bots. If there’s a place where your instance admins publish notifications, try checking there to see if they have said they are doing this

Most instances labeled as “closed” are in fact merely gated. Eg beehaw.org was never really closed, they just had an approval process that delayed getting your account.
