The Mozilla foundation makes a lot of money. It’s the Mozilla Corp who needs Google money. People would gladly donate to Firefox but they can’t. If google money dries up and no other way is possible to profit from search deals (unlikely, as only Google is being procecuted), Mozilla Corp can be absorbed into the foundation. Then just fire the stupid expensive CEO. Suddenly you have millions.

“We need the devil to stay alive 😭😭😭”

Cry me a river. Maybe you don’t deserve to live if evil sustains you.

Maybe these fucks should find a more honest “business model” that doesn’t rely on handouts from a monopolist like, who knows, maybe try and talk to governments to be their default browser and be paid for support? Or refocus your efforts and trim the fat from the top that’s sucking millions out of the org for firing people and making bad decisions? Or let your users donate money directly to firefox development instead of going “we’ll accept your money, but it might go into anything but firefox”? Or a bunch of other things that don’t mean keeping the biggest invader of privacy alive just so that you can survive?

Isn’t librewolf building on the latest versions of firefox or gecko or something? So if firefox does, so does librewolf?

Yep, that’s the problem with browsers. They cost so much to maintain that their primary contributors are earning money through other means to keep the projects going. Gecko and Chromium are open-source, backed by Google money on both ends, but even then almost all of the non-corporate browser projects are just forks of one or the other.

Other than Safari, which is closed source and only on Apple’s walled garden, Ladybird is the only non-Chromium, non-Gecko browser I can think of, and it needs a LOT of work.

It’s a fork, so they can choose what to incorporate from Mozilla or not. If they go “bad” at anytime I’ll just switch again.

The point is that librewolf is downstream of Firefox. They are not equipped to maintain an entire browser if Firefox goes the way of the dodo

Prolly not… But we gonna have to have a real convo about future of Firefox. It can’t die. Fuck mozilla but the peasants gonna need to come with some money and it to people who can maintain a proper fork. Otherwise we are all fucking cooked.

I know there other engines cooking but they immature and at this point either mozilla gets its act together (it won’t) or ff will need to be forked with FOSS values. We have to pay to make it happen.

Does anybody think that Mozilla will attempt to win their community back and start being good stewards of the money they are given?

They’ve had ample time to wash themselves of Google’s money. They have been too busy justifying their salaries with useless initiatives and acquisitions, when all people care about is Firefox.

When can we directly donate to Firefox’s development?

      No.

No matter what you think of Eich. The Eich era of Firefox/Mozilla was their golden years. I miss them.

Scaremongering, Firefox will always land on its feet and if one source dries up there’s always more.
