I’m finding a lot of threads with no replies and I’m wondering if openSUSE community congregates elsewhere or is it just a quiet community in general.

That’s such a pity. I absolutely love the distribution but have had a lot of teething issues that were just non-existent on another distribution so I switched. For now, anyway. Thanks for chiming in.

It saddens me. SuSE 5.3 was a significant part of my technological experiences while living in Germany. They excel in enterprise solutions, but are not typically the preferred Linux distribution for everyday users outside of specific communities.

opensuse was the first distro that I had the experience of installing to a laptop and it was workable enough in the early aughts. Significantly the network and graphics worked enough that it was not necessary to have another pc for downloading sneakernetting things to it to get it going. It may sound stupid but that was a really big deal.

I use openSUSE everywhere, but I don’t recommend it for new users because of the support issues. I end up using the Arch wiki a fair amount, and the vast majority of it applies regardless of distro.

The Matrix channel seems to be fairly responsive, at least compared to the forums. But both areas are a bit sparse. I wonder if it’s better in German.

That makes sense. I have a good bit of experience as a casual user since the early 2000s, but I don’t have the same drive I used to for problem solving :~)

I might sign up for Matrix. Thanks for the info and great user name.
