And how big is your household?
Had £44-ish before we got a meter. Now, with a smart meter, we’re paying £38 a month. 2 people, West London.
In Scotland, it’s part of council tax.
So, £1200 ISH for a flatI assume that’s per year and not per month? Our council tax alone is £160/month!
We’ve just had an updated water bill, where we’re going to be paying £123/month. It wasn’t that long ago where we we paying £60/month and I thought that was a lot!
We’re a family of four, apparently using 667 litres per day - however I think this was down to a leaky toilet which we’ve only just had fixed, as at the first half of 2024 we were using under 500 litres per day. Just curious what others are paying?
Maybe I dont look at my usage closely enough. But over 100 litres a day per person sounds crazy
edit - guess I should check my usage! Apparently average per person is 140L a day
The average person in England and Wales used roughly 140 liters of water per day as of 2024

For us, we’re, on average, per day:
2x showers in the morning 1.5x washing machine loads 1x dishwasher 2x baths in the evening (my wife will have one and then usually the kids will have a separate one together)
Then there’s obviously the toilet flushes, sinks to wash our hands, some small bits of washing up.
You pay monthly? I seem to only be able to pay quarterly, with a 1 week turn around required after they issue the bill.

The hell? Do you just not use any water at all?!

£16/month here too, household of one, no dishwasher (apart from me obviously).
Last quarter I paid Southern £97 for 44m³ of water and Thames £92 to remove 44m³ of waste.
This is a house of 4, 2 adults and two teens.
[Edit] Apparently 250l a day. That feels like a lot, but I don’t have any leaking toilets or anything like that.
According to Untied Utilities, the average 4 person household uses 450L a day!
As you can see, we had a sudden jump in 2024…
Ours is in a weird “payment split over eight months” instead of twelve, for some reason.
Anyway, it’s just leapt up to £464 a year from £344 a year (equivalent to jumping from ~£28 per month to ~£38 per month).
Not on a meter, and have no idea if it would make it cheaper.
There’s two of us (humans) currently, though there were three for most of last year. I think the cats have their own arrangements for bathing and don’t affect the water bill much.
US East Coast. Family of 4. Combined water/trash/recycling private house around U$ 80/Month.
