Switching to a Chromium-based browser (Arc, Brave, Vivaldi, Edge, et al) does not increase browser competition. It just further strengthens Google’s ability to control the web as a platform.
@dpflug
Seeing Shopify and Proton as sponsors is a little off-putting if I’m being honest. The way proton enshitified especially makes it worrisome. @Jeremiah@aspensmonster
@bobkmertz@dpflug@aspensmonster Unlike Mozilla’s leadership, I think Ladybird’s co-founders understand the primary reason people are supporting them is because they are not doing what Mozilla is doing.
Shopify and Proton are problematic companies, but I don’t think they have enough financial sway or anti-privacy business reasons to corrupt Ladybird.

But at one point Mozilla was in the same position. We see it in corporations and politics all the time where someone just takes a little money expecting it to be just that and then later they realize they are trapped.

We need more browser competition.

#Mozilla #Firefox
Found a list with supposed non-chromium browsers. But it’s a couple of years old, so I don’t know if it holds water.
There’s Firefox & Waterfox
Librewolf
Mullvad
GNOME Web (Epiphany)
Pale Moon
SeaMonkey
Midori
K-Meleon
Otter Browser
And of cause, Safari.
I can’t speak to the validity or quality of any of these. But at least there is something to look into.
I would like to add Zen Browser as a nice Firefox Fork
Oops. Broke my own thread.

@Jeremiah
At least one group is trying. https://ladybird.org/
And most people here seem to be switching to LibreWolf, Fennec, and/or Vivaldi.

Regardless, I am rooting more for @servo / Verso.
