Both are pastes made of mashed beans (peanuts and chickpeas are beans.) They also have a similar nutrient profile and are both used for similar dishes.

    Peanut butter can be made solely with blended peanuts. Hummus is rarely, if ever ime, made with only blended chickpeas and also requires some oil/tahini for even the basic texture.

      Now that I think about it, tahini and peanut butter are fairly similar in texture and consistency.

      I wonder what Hummus with peanut butter would taste like.

      I also wonder what peanut butter with garlic, lemon and cumin would taste like.

      I was under the impression that, by definition, blended chickpeas were only one ingredient in hummus.

      I thought in order to qualify as hummus it had to have blended chickpeas, tahini ( which is just blended sesame seeds, IIRC), oil, and lemon juice.
