There is definitely a chunk of services I’m dependent on because of need. The most important is probably a password manager. I know they can be self-hosted. And while I’m technically inclined enough to be able to do it, I don’t trust myself to be able to maintain it, so I rely on the provider’s service.

Another would be maps and navigation, because traffic in my city is so unpredictable that I always use navigation even on familiar routes in case of an accident or road closure and I need to divert.

The wants on the other hand (i.e. streaming services) are more for convenience rather than dependency.

Yep, paid off my car 2 years into a 4 year loan and my credit score went down. Having the money to pay for something in full early is proof of financial responsibility, but you get penalized instead because they get less interest from you.

I said this in another post, but this is a good example to use when arguing with the nothing-to-hide-nothing-to-fear crowd.

So fishing for sport where they catch and release is basically torture by getting injured by the hook and then asphyxiating for however long they are out of water before being released.

Translation: I went to the bank without an appointment and started talking my word salad to a teller who couldn’t understand a single thing I said, so they escalated me to an officer who will quickly show me the door as soon as they realize it’s sovcit bs.
