recursive_recursion they/them@lemmy.cato WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•Calling all tech people...English5·19 days agoI can definitely help with this👍
For general talking points:
- reducing phone apps always running in the background, beeing choosy with which apps should have “Background Data Usage” allowed/enabled.
- what kinds of apps to install? Proprietary vs Open Source? (most if not all proprietary apps will collect and sell any data they can, free proprietary apps means you are the product)
- Who do I know that has been consistently trustworthy online? Can I ask them for help?
- try to provide the least amount of Personally Identifying Information (PII) if possible, no need to share entire life stories unless you’re sure you can trust the person online.
I’m sure I know more about this as I personally try to help my friends and family protect themselves, just can’t think of more to add atm.
Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions🤗

I’d usually say that “I’m hoping for the best, prepared for the worst” but honestly at this point I think I have 0 hope, and I’m only prepared for the worst.

This will undoubtedly have a major impact against Microsoft and even perhaps Google.
AI-powered productivity features.
Everything is pretty sweet except ^the AI productivity features. Hopefully the AI portions are optional opt-ins rather than it being preincluded opt-outs.

recursive_recursion they/them@lemmy.cato WomensStuff@piefed.blahaj.zone•What do you want to be remembered as? English1·22 days agoI’d like to hopefully be remembered as someone who tried to make a difference in this shitty world.
Besides that I’d also hopefully live peacefully and quietly, I’ve already seen just how fame can both corrupt and destroy celebrities and their lives.
To me fame seems more like a poisoned pill more than a double edged sword.

recursive_recursion they/them@lemmy.cato Linux@programming.dev•When did you go full Linux nerd?English9·23 days agoWhen I got frustrated with Windows around 2019 and I had spare time I decided that enough is enough and spent a couple of days to take the time to learn Arch Linux and all of its quirks.
Around 2020 I started tinkering with NixOS as well which culminated as my NixOS configuration.
Although at this point I’m going back to Arch Linux as I actually know how to fix and make modifications faster and better than I could on NixOS.

recursive_recursion they/them@lemmy.caOPto Canada@lemmy.ca•Bill C-5 just became law with ZERO new changes. Here's what that means (it's not good)English23·23 days agoPromised actions of good should never come at the expense of any singular group, minority, people.
In addition destroying our land to fuel the economic engine will only benefit capitalist systems and corporations.
I’ve yet to see how this would sustainably benefit foreign people in their own country so to import this into Canada seems ridiculous.
recursive_recursion they/them@lemmy.caOPto Canada@lemmy.ca•Senator says political pressure led to rushed vote on major projects bill | Power & PoliticsEnglish12·23 days agoI agree. There’s absolutely no reason to rush this bill as bill C-5 won’t just affect the people who live in Canada now but the future of all Canadians alike.
This rushed hack bill to me seems incredibly similar to corporate overtime or triple-A game dev crunch jobs.
Honestly that’s the same with one of our friends.
He got sucked into the LLM rabbit hole and now just occasionally says some weird shit no one interacts with.
I have a feeling that brainrot is accelerated in these kinds of people due to a positive feedback loop as they become ostracized due to a noticible “self-deterioration”.
Use LLM -> become brainrot -> can’t connect with others -> use more LLM -> become more brainrot -> more ostracized from society -> ad nauseum.
