  • I think you missed the part where extracting CO2 costs huge amounts of energy, and converting it back to oxygen to capture pure carbon costs the exact same amount of energy as you got when you burned it in the same place. Add losses due to heat etc, and basically if you want to dial back the clock for CO2 levels, and given that no other extra CO2 is being emitted anymore, you’d need to spend about twice the energy the world generated. Want to dial CO2 back how it was 10 years ago? That’ll cost you about twice amount of energy that the world has spent over the past ten years by burning fossil fuels.

And that is on top of the normal world consumption of energy, and that is also assuming that all CO2 emissions have stopped. That is also ignoring energy costs for storing the carbon as well

So yeah, good luck with that.

  • Artificial intelligence was not developed to usher in a dystopia, in fact it had a rather utopic mission. By further automating mundane tasks, AI has the potential to ease the workload of millions of workers worldwide in every job and field, potentially giving them back their precious time of the day without sacrificing overall productivity.

    Yeah, good luck with that.

In reality, everyone gets fired, the rich get richertge poor get poorer and 99.9% of humans will live in a dystopia, if AI doesn’t kill us all.

Yet the AI bros go like “that won’t happen to ME though!”

  • I’d like to see a serious answer to this, please?

Why, indeed, is it that you can’t criticize Israel, even though it’s clearly committing genocide. you can’t say “Innocent Palestinians are being murdered” or anything like it because that’s “antisemitic”, even though this is litert using both your eyes to see what is happening.

I’m guessing pressure from Israel? But what pressure? How do they pressure so many counties that their governments go with “can’t say anything realistic about Israel!”. Do they have pee tapes of all prime ministers or something?

  • Of course it should be covered in solar panels but so should most roofs everywhere but this single roof would be less than a drop in the bucket.

A square meter solar panel gives you about 100 watts while the sun is at it’s highest point, and only when aimed directly at the sun. Typically over the entire day, the average will be a fraction of that

Meanwhile these servers use multiple CPUs that each take around 200 watts. A single server can take between 1-5 kilowatt in power. A single rack than carry dozens of those server’s, so you see that you’d need way, waaaayyy more solar panels to make up for all of that

Again, not saying they shouldn’t. All buildings should have solar panel roofs, but for this one building it won’t do much to the point that the difference would be a blip

  • It’s not harsh, it’s exactly what it is.

Couple that with on the one hand the 2A gun nuts that always wanted guns to protect against tyranny being the ones pushing for a tyrant and on the other hands generations of Americans that pride themselves for being the country of men like in the movies, who step up and make the ultimate sacrifice for everyone else and… Crickets…

Americans barely protest even, let alone take real actual action. Even the protests have been blips at best.

What is it Americans? Are you too scared? Too tired to fight, or did you simply never really care? Do something!
