According to the article Australians are the worst in the world for clothing waste, on average buying 56 clothing items per person per year. That is fucking insane. I would say on average I buy maybe two clothing items per year. In my poverty time there were many years where that number was zero.
Does anyone have worldwide data on these stats?
Fucken hell. Does that include things bought second hand? Literally the only new things i buy these days are underwear / bras and socks.
Where as the only things I buy second hand are bras and socks
Hope you’re not wearing those bras, they go bad and it’s terrible support.
Depending on the size, wonderful to repurpose as rat hammocks, light-hearted siege engines or yarmulkes though
Maybe it’s counting each individual sock as a clothing item? Like so a 6 pack counts as 12 items? Even then though it breaks my brain to read.
This could potentially be made another EU Citizens Initiative.
If food waste is a concern, I wonder if US-style leftover culture will spread, except I don’t know how that might impact disposable container consumption.
