In the western pyrenees, Basque country.
There’s a bunch of accommodation in the middle of Iraty ("Chalets d’Iraty) that’s lovely to drive to, it’s the D18 and D19 roads between St Jean Pied de Port, and Larrrau
After Larrau, if you have time, the hike to Passerelle D’Holzarte starts from the “Auberge Logibar” and is very worth it, a suspended bridge awaits you at the end of the climb
Hey thank you so much for the tip. I was riding (i am on a cycling trip) up there from st jean pied de port along the D18 but didn’t go to larrau but rode the d18 until it ended, then crossed to the spanish side. The photo is taken by a refugio, about 2 km below the larraineko mendatea on the d26, spanish side.
Yesterday i already rode out of irati and the basque country and i crossed into aragón and the valles occidentales natural park.
esit: photo is from sunday evening
Nice, hope you enjoyed the trip !! Spanish Pyrénées are beautiful as well 😍
Oh yeah, i am totally loving it. My original plan was to stay more on the french side on this bit, but i thought south side = sunny side, as the weather was kinda on the colder and cloudier side. I’ll probably be back in france by tomorrow evening so i can hopefully ride the famous cols before the weekend with all the motorbikers :)
I made a write up of the first two days of the pyrenees section of my trip in the !bicycle_touring@lemmy.world community and i will update the topic as i make my way towards the mediterranean cost, if you are interested.
