Man, this is so sad. Huge loss for American literature.
Odd timing that I picked up a more recent book of his from the library just last week. The Passenger. It’s really cool so far.
RIP
Ugh. This one hurt. I know he was 89, and I feel so lucky he got his last two out and get to read them (still haven’t read Stella Maris but The Passenger was a lot of mysterious fun, reminded me a bit a Pulp, contextually speaking)
I was so bummed to wake up to this, he was such an amazing novelist and even though I’ve only read The Road and Blood Meridian, both are up there as some of the best books I’ve ever read. I may need to pick up another of his books this month to read.
I cross posted this into the News instance when it happened and posted there, but I have a huge amount of respect for him so I’ll double up.
In my 30s, I came across Cormac’s writing and was immediately drawn to his style. The Road, in particular, resonated with me after just having my son. Someone recommended it to me, and it just so happened to be shortly after my son was born, and I think it had a significant impact on the way I parent and interact with my children. He’s definitely one of my favorite authors and definitely definitely had an impact on my life. https://lemmy.world/comment/163480
Thanks for everything Mr. McCarthy.
