I’ve always thought if they just showed a bit of encouragement to him he would have been fine.
You’re not master - yet. But don’t worry, you will be, it’s a process. Listen Anakin, I know it seems like a long thing, and you are doing a great job, but everyone goes through this. I went through it…
Instead he just got “You are not qualified. Sit down”.
Equally, I don’t think Anakin would have lost his shit on Mustafar if he didn’t look up and see Obi-Wan standing at the top of the ramp in the ship like an utter bad bitch.
Although at that point he had already murdered children
“Allegedly”
Those holorecordings could have been deepfaked by the Jedi council to turn everyone against Anakin.
Why…would anyone do that? What base does this idea come from?
Darth Jar Jar, meesa thinks
meesa bombbad sith
Who among us has not had that urge
Urge?? Well… I missed the memo
Let’s put that aside now, that is not important.
Almost the entire point of the prequels is that the Jedi are horrible.
So, yeah. That’s how they do it.
I feel like Obi Wan wasnt like them but also wasnt in a position to argue with others lile Windu in EP 2 and 3.
Yeah, I know, took a couple watchthroughs to get it at first but this was their own arrogance really showing. They couldn’t be bothered just to show a bit of encouragement.
I find it really interesting how bad heroes on movies have to be completely over the top and people still mostly don’t get them.
In a book Anakin could be broken by the Jedi radicalism even if everybody acted humane. But I guess a movie couldn’t have enough time for this.
I think he didn’t get that encouragement because they didn’t believe it.
Yeah, from Episode I Windu and Yoda were doubting that Anakin was the Chosen One.
Tbf, that shouldn’t be a qualifier for Ani to be on his way to a Jedi master. Yoda should’ve shadowed him more to balance out all his war experience
they failed him for sure but everyone is responsible for their own actions
Terrible parents are more likely to raise terrible off-spring.
And if you are starved of emotional closeness to a father/mother figure and get manipulated by bad influences like Sidious who is most likely a master in manipulation and gas lighting and have way too much power in the force…Pretty easy to land on the wrong track.
are you implying Shmi was a terrible parent?
The later part after Shmi.
I’d believe her death really made all things fall together.
If the council rescued her from Tatooine and safeguarded her, this wouldnt have happened as it did.As I only partially know the lore from the movies, did Anakin really have someone to talk to except for Sidious, Obiwan and Padme?
I’d bet as Sisdious being very good as a politician he’d also be excellent at manipulating the low level psyche of Anakin. Please correct me if I got some lore part wrong as I do enjoy the discussions about SW lore.
I’m not saying that he should automatically be Jedi Master but he should have been treated better. Windu was especially hostile with him several times in the movies.
The Jedi just didn’t give enough hugs.
Yeah, for a religion that was about kindness and good, they showed a remarkable lack of empathy.
…
So like all religions?
Interesting choice of image for the point, a man using the power of Jeeeeeeeeesus to fight an egomaniacal vampire/demon.
This line just came to mind because Drac said “Perhaps the same could be said of all religions…” just before (in response to the accusation that he steals men’s souls and makes them his slaves).
Meme goodness aside, if you want an analytical look at the psychology of Anakin, check out this video.
If you want a super deep dive on the philosophy behind Jedi thought (which is at the core of Star Wars as George Lucas framed a lot it from his experience as a Buddhist) take a look at this YouTube video. I’ve never heard a more complete explanation of the star wars universe and it addresses a lot of the superficial criticisms people direct towards the Jedi and general stance the movies take on good and bad.
As a secondary plug, for any who played the RPG Knights of the Old Republic II, here is an awesome breakdown of the Kreia character by the same creator. Not just interesting from the perspective of fans of the game, but philosophy in general.
I watched that Kreia video a couple of years ago and loved every second, really good.
Seriously, it’s rare for me to be so engrossed in something that I’ll sit through a 2 hour video, but with this one I was legitimately sad when it ended 😄
Thanks for these! Looks like I have some videos to watch…
Wow this feels like victim blaming… ;)
