Hi folks!
I build a classic “platforms surrounded with trapdoors” xp farm.
The spawn rates are quite nice but once a second player joins the game, spawn rates drop to zero immediately.
If the player goes more than 120 blocks away, the spawns start again but at an abysmal rate.
Does anyone know what the problem seems to be? The farm is high in the sky 128 blocks above the ocean so nothing can spawn except there.
I might have read something about mobs spawning between them if multiple players are on the server. I suppose I could check that.
Thanks for reading. Have a good one.
Check this video from logicalgeekboy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD5Dd6VDr7c
Checked it out. It mentions the increasing mob cap with distance between players. I mean it could be that the others have more spawnable block around them and fill up the cap.
And you spawn the mobs high up in the sky, wich also means your farm gets lesser mobs than the other players at/below ground.
Yeah, makes perfect sense. Thank you very much for the heads up! :)
What are the optimisations enabled or plugins?
No plugins so far. I‘ve hust spun up 1.20.2 paper since it was the newest recommended at the time.
Completely default config except medium diff instead of easy.
Could it be that players near me actually take the complete mob cap? I always thought they both get half of the mob cap.
try MiniHUD mod if you want more info on mob cap and more!
Thanks for the suggestion. I‘m pretty sure the reason is spawn priorities when players are on the ground vs me high up in the sky. I have minihud and its working well. Has been essential to making good farms. Have a good one.
