I’m glad I read this post because I certainly don’t plan to visit the site.

Everything is bad, but a highlight for me is Ellen Degeneres posting “Welcome to Gay Twitter!” as if she is still relevant or respected by us LGBT+ people, and as if a site created by The Zuck to appeal to the type of person who thinks Miracle Whip is too spicy could ever be “gay” anything.

Hard to find something depressing with no experience.

What is depressing is that tens of millions JUMP on the platform, knowing already that Meta is evil and not caring.

The human race is digging it’s own grave, and the handful that know better will just get pulled down.

Will Threads last? I don’t know. It is an app stuffed with verified users I’ve never heard of who have 7 million YouTube subscribers. They all do Epic Pranks and they spread Positive Vibes and they Don’t Talk Politics Here.

As no one can delete their Threads accounts without deleting their Instagram accounts, I’m sure it will last. Users will likely get bored and leave, but Zuck will likely show the advertisers „hey, there are millions of users already here and no one is leaving. Here’s how many you can reach!”.

Kind of how @mastodonusercount displays accounts over on Mastodon, but you don’t know how active are them or if they are still using the said accounts.

This reads like the author liked the old Twitter, which I think was also very cringe. Bluesky is not promising or much better.

Unfortunately Twitter celebrities seem so starved for an alternative, that I think they’re willing to sweep their anti-zuckerberg-ism under the rug in favor of getting back that social media engagement hit. I’ve already seen it in my circles and I doubt it’s unique.

Unfortunately, I really do think threads will succeed. It is filling a void much desired by many, even if done poorly. And chances are, they’ll make it better (or at least more attractive or addicting).

If this is accurate then I don’t think the fediverse has much to fear from Threads federating. Even if they can technically talk to each other, not many people will want to follow someone on the other platform. They’re different worlds.

I think the zuck will federate FB insta and threads into a walled garden because I can’t see him wanting users to interact outside of Metas products. It will work because people want to see family members are up to without logging into Facebook or vise versa.
