I am probably not the best example, but i thought i know many games but i honestly have no clue what shenmue is.i certainly have seen it somewhere but i never heard if it in the last 30 years. No clue how to properly measure influence, but shouldn’t that also include society aswell, and for that certainly more people know about doom…especially because of the memes

I’m sorry if you’re a fan, but there is no way that Shenmue was more influential than fucking Doom, or many of the other games on the list.

It’s a cool game with lots of innovations, but the most influential game of all time?? Absolutely not.

      Yeah 100%

This was a public poll after all so it smells a bit like fandom bandwagoning

When BAFTA’s poll reached Lemmy, I did think a lot of you were overrating Doom (and I can’t help but think it’s because a lot of you were PC gamers when Doom came out.) It’s definitely in the top ten, but not number 1 IMO. Tetris, Minecraft, Super Mario Bros, and Pong definitely belong above Doom IMO.

But Shenmue??? Maybe top twenty, but number 1???
